Meet Alan

"In these challenging times for our nation and state and region, it is wonderful to see someone like Alan willing to stand up for our children and families and lead with kindness and compassion. He will bring a welcome, thoughtful and well-informed voice to our school board and I look forward to the years of service ahead of him." - Ray Pearl, Council Member, City of Westlake Village

"Alan will make a great addition to our school board. His education and business experience along with his willingness to address the challenges we face are very much required as our students face an ever more complicated world. He will be a great voice for the present and future of the Las Virgenes Unified School District." - Joe Loggia, Council Member, City of Hidden Hills

Alan and his family have lived in Calabasas for eight years. His daughters are now in 3rd and 7th grade in LVUSD schools and will be part of the district for many years to come.

Alan was born in South Africa. After winning a Fulbright scholarship to the USA, he graduated from USC School of Cinema-Television with an MFA. He proudly became a US citizen in 2010. Alan has decades of strong business experience, building a music publishing company from the ground up, making it profitable in just two years, and serving as CEO for 8 years. He later sold it to a Hollywood studio. He is known in the industry for his business savvy. An award-winning film and TV composer, he has written scores for Netflix, HBO, Bravo, BBC and more. Alan’s novel, “Roam” was published by Simon and Schuster and translated into seven languages.

Alan has a long history of involvement in industry organizations – he is a voting member of the Recording Academy and Television Academy and sits on several industry boards, including the Production Music Association (PMA) which represents more than 40% of the music on global television and streaming.

At a local level, he sits on the Measure S Oversight Committee, the district LCAP committee, and a local elementary School Site Council for seven years, six years as elected chair. He is a proud board member of local congregation, Or Ami.

Alan’s songs have been performed on “America’s Got Talent”, but his biggest claim to fame is writing the Bay Laurel school song!

Alan's family is committed to being part of the community for many years to come. Alan hopes to make a positive contribution to LVUSD Schools. Here's a family pic from a recent visit to Yellowstone National Park!

“I have known Alan since he moved to Calabasas and he is consistently working towards making our community be its best. He loves living here and his joy shines through in all he does. He is passionate about education and constantly supports in any way he can. It is no surprise that he’s ready to take all he has learned and experienced to the next level as a Board Member. I fully trust that he will be an honest, dedicated, caring and collaborative school board member.” – Beth Jagtiani, LVUSD substitute teacher, parent and community member.
